Mini Cupcake Stand Tutorial!

Here is what you have been waiting for! Thank you so much for the response in Facebook! I made the tutorial using patterns from the Sweet Berrylicious Collection, thank you to one of my biggest fans Michelle for suggesting it!

I am so in love with this little cuties. The method of doing this little cupcake stands was developed by me, I haven't seen this tutorial on the web... and I have researched a lot! I am a scientist, so I actually used the scientific method (yeah how dorky is that!) to achieve less cutting and more sturdiness. You can place this tutorial on your blog, but please link back to here and give the proper credits. If you use this method to do your own Mini Cupcake Stands, please also give the proper credit and link back... thank you so much! If you don't want to do this by your own, you can buy beautiful pre-made white mini cupcake stands from Hello Hanna. But enough of the fine print, here is the tutorial:

1. Print on bright white heavy paper.

2. Cut a rectangle around the base of the stand using a rotary cutter.

3. Use a scoring tool to score along the white lines.

4. Fold the base in a zig-zag way, like you were folding a fan.

5. Form the shape of the base with the pattern on the outside. Make sure they align.

6. Start gluing sides one by one, satrting with the second fold. (Leave the two outer parts for the end.) Make sure to put glue all the way to the edges and that all the parts are aligned.

7. Cut the top part while you let the glue dry. Carefully cut away the white semi ovals of the base.

8. Place a heavy glue on the edges on top of the base. Place the top part on a flat surface upside down. Glue the base to the top align the legs of the base with the petals.

9. Now you have sturdy, neat and cute mini cupcake stands to match your Sweet Berrylicious Party!

Lorelys Maia's Alice in Wonderland Birthday

We had such a blast on my daughter's third birthday. I did a Tea Party theme inspired on Alice in Wonderland. I designed all the paper goodies and here is my second attempt to make a sweets table... I learned a copule of things on the way and want to share them with you on another post... but first see the pics and bring on those comments!

The chocolate goodies above were done by Edu, a local artisan, they are actually typical Puertorrican candies like guava, cocconut and "polvorones" covered in chocolate... something you can only find in Puerto Rico! Visit Edu here!

We covered the cupcakes with tulle because living in a tropical island, mosquitoes are an everyday issue... but I ended up loving the way they look.

I just created some menus for a local event, and had the idea of creating this mini menus for the kids table. They look so little and cute! Enjoy and keep those comments coming in... I want to know if you are still out there!

I had started to see this cupcake stands popping up all over the internet, even with tutorials in you tube for how to do them. So I definitely wanted to design some of my own, specially after seeing the ones from Hello Hannah at Amy Atlas! Cuteness in a cupcake stand...

With the birthday of my daughter coming soon, I decided to design my own to match the birthday theme of course, Alice in Wonderland! And here is how they turned out!

You will have to excuse the photography, but the sensor in my camera has a crack... yeah so sad! That's the best I could do! I need a new camera!

It's that time of the year again!

Yep, my daughter's birthday is coming soon and I have been doing some things to celebrate in style! I am so behind with my blog, so please excuse me... I am in the last stage of my PhD which means craziness all over! I am designing stuff for her birthday and printing/cutting at night when I get home... but I love it! Of course I want to share the little things I am doing for Lorelys Maia's third birthday with all of you, my loyal readers! Just like I did last year.

I decided on the "Alice in Wonderland Tea Party" inspired theme which is a movie that my daughter loves (the original movie). This is the invitation that I designed, I just love how it looks. I incorporated the tea party elements and a colorful palette, it is unlike anything I had seen before and that's what I like the most about it!

Sweetly Sweet Customers {Winnie the Pooh by Monica}

I had lost contact with one of my high school friends, Monica and she found me on Etsy! This world is so small! She fell in love with my pop-up invitations and asked me to create a pop-up invitation to go with a Winnie the Pooh theme for a little boy, I created this invitation as you may remember.

Well my friend Monica sent me the pics of her son's first birthday some time ago and I wanted to share them with you. I would loved to be there, it all looked wonderful!

Sweet Berrylicious {Free Party!} Part 3

Also Amy Atlas featured Glory's fabulous desert table on her blog! I am so happy for her and also so excited to see one of my designs on Amy's blog!!! I know it doesn't really count as a mention in the blog world :( but I am super excited anyway!!! Those cupcake toppers look so good on Amy's blog... and of course now I am one step closer to being featured on her blog someday, and HWTM and Martha... well let me kep dreaming :)

This was just a wonderful surprise I found in my mail box this morning! Remember the posts I did (and I am still doing) on a strawberry themed party on a budget? Well, take a look at this wonderful party from my blogging friend Glory from Glorious Treats. She did an AMAZING job with this strawberry sweets table inspired by Amy Atlas and Sharnel!

Did I mention that the total cost for sweets and favors for a party of 8 was $38.08? And of course to stay on a budget she used my free Sweet Berrylicious Collection for the cupcake toppers!

It is such a nice and fuzzy feeling when I see my designs on a beautiful party, thank you so much for the great inspiration Glory!

Stickers for books and notebooks!

Thanks for peeking in on my blog! I have been working very hard to finish my studies and my blog is on "vacation", but I wanted to share some stuff I am doing for Lorelys which is going to school on August. I made an illustration of a little girl with butterflies on a sunny day to make a pencil pouch for her and I just designed some cute matching stickers for her books and notebooks. They say: "This belongs to:" and one of them has the logo of the school she is attending to, I love how these turned out!

I also wanted to consult with all of you wonderful girls because I am having trouble on transferring the image to a canvas fabric to make the pouch, so if you have any advice please comment to let me know! I think the image is just too big (8 X 9 in). I want to make this style of pencil pouch that I found from Kukubee on Etsy:

I just fell in love with these little pouches and wanted to make one for my little one with her name. So if you have any advice or ideas, please let me know.

Back to School!

Yeah, I know it is too early, but my free time is scarce this days. My little princess is going to Pre-Pre Kinder this year (tears in my eyes!) and of course I am already preparing some cute stuff for her to take to school! I am very busy with working full time and finishing my studies, so I barely have time to attend my Etsy Shop or do more designs! But I just could not resist, for now, I am going to share this design I am working on for her.

I am going to make a pencil bag, out of this design... I don't know how to sew, but I think I can do it! I have the process on my mind, and of course when I finish it you will be the first to see it!

Other things I want to do include a notebook cover, recyclable treats bag and some other cute stuff. I can't believe my little baby is going to school on August. But now I need your help:

What handmade things have you made for you kid's back to school? I would love to hear from you and get more ideas, see pictures, etc! Thanks!!!

New Pop-up Invitation Design: {Sweet Hunny Collection}

A friend of mine found me on Etsy and fell in love with my designs! Although I am on a break, I decided to create a pop-up invitation for her baby boy first birthday. The birthday has a Winnie the Pooh theme, so I created a bee-hunny related theme... hunny like Pooh spell it! I created the invitation with the form of a bee hive with happy bees inside and of course hunny at the top! I drew everything, including the bee and hunny pot myself in AI! This collection will be available on my Etsy Shop soon! Now enjoy the pics I took from my creation.

Sweet Parties: Wii Birthday Tournament

I found this super sweet party from Susan Crabtree at PocaCosas. It was a party for teen boys and I am sure they had a super duper sweet time! Susan exploded the Wii Tournament theme and provided her guests with players agreements, schedule of events, Wii inspired prizes (movie sized candy) for the event Wii-nners, tournament shirts, team passes, a Wii-kend Warrior Kit for the tournament, Wii-cked goodies, even a Wii remote birthday cake. Every detail was perfect!

This is the first Sweet Party I feature on my blog, this is how much I loved his one!

Hope to feature many more!

I have a nephew and he loves the Wii, he would be nuts for a party like this. Thanks for the inspiration Susan and keep up the great work!

Sweet Berrylicious {Free Party!} Part 2

I am adding some other stuff to my free Sweet Berrylicious Party printables, this time is Sweet Circles and Thank you tags! The thank you tags say: "Thank you... for coming to my party!" These match with the other free printables I have posted here and here. I am so excited to be writing about how to make a budget party, I hope to be helping someone out there!

I am still working on the Adobe PDF File for these... as you may know there are people out there imitating (stealing) the hard work of some wonderfully talented women and selling them on Etsy! It happened to Kim from The TomKat Studio, to Amy from Living Locurto and recently to Linnette from Paper Glitter!

I work hard to make my designs uniquely cute and sweet, I honestly don't want to see them for sale as a malformed imitation!

My best advice for those people is: (I just came up with this)

"Everyone is unique,

just don't forget to find that uniqueness yourself"

Sweet Berrylicious {Free Party!} Part 1

Sometimes we think that we don't have the resources to do a spectacular party with all those little details that makes a party unforgettable. But we can learn to make spectacular party decorations with just an internet connection, a printer, paper, scissors and tape!

This is one of several posts on how to make a strawberry or spring related party using the free resources on the internet, but they can be extrapolated to any party! I am doing these as a relaxation break during my free time between studying, being a mom, wife and working full time! As I mentioned before, my daughter is all Strawberry Shortcake right now, and I began to create some goodies for her. See this cute treat box and sweet circles.

Now, as I see that lined envelopes are popping everywhere, I created a cute lined envelope and card to match the Sweet Berrylicious theme. Here is a sneak peek of the cute items.

A Sweet Berrylicious Tutorial {And a Freebie!}

Not too long ago, a sweet reader asked how did I made my Treat Boxes. Well, today I wanted to relax from school and work for a few hours so what a better way to relax than to sit in front of my computer and play with Illustrator!

My daughter is all Strawberry Shortcake right now, her grandpa got her the new movie and all she wants to do is watch it again and again. So I thought I could make a little box for her to play with... I love this colors so much that now I am trying to decide between Alice in Wonderland or Strawberry Shortcake for her birthday!

Maybe you have a little one that loves Strawberry Shortcake as well so I decided to share this wonderful design with all of you. I am not a fan of doing heavy character birthdays, but if you go to the Strawberry Shortcake site, along with this free download you can throw a little inexpensive party for your little girl. I will probably dedicate another post for that.

For now, here is a little tutorial on how to make a cute 3.5 inches square box (with some Sweet Circles as a bonus!!!) like the one pictured below:

Then follow this simple instructions:

Print the file on heavy cardstock and cut around the box template. Score on all the light pink lines. Put the parts of the box side by side as shown here.

Glue or tape this two sides first. You should end up with something like this.

Glue or tape the side flap as shown above, then the flaps at the bottom. That's it!

Your beautiful box should look like this:

Your little princess will have lots of fun with it...

Add a little tissue paper in bright green for a festive look.

Punch the free Sweet Circles and you are ready to party!!!

How was your Valentine's Day?

I spent my day with my family taking pics of my husband's cousin wedding... it was beautiful! The bride and groom looked so happy... reminded me of my own wedding. We were terrified of course that the pics would not come ok, that the camera would malfunction, we only have done this 4 times in our lives.

But thanks to God all the pics came out wonderful! And here is a preview of a pic showing the details of the cake. I will do the digital album when I finish my studies... so this may be the only pic you see in a long time!

Color correction in Photoshop

When my sister got married, she wanted me to take the pics of her wedding. We did not had any experience, but she wanted us to do it anyway because she knew that if we did it they would turn out ok... so we got the pics and made the album... here are some of the album pages (this was more than 5 years ago!).

Now, one of my husband's cousins is getting married and wants us to take her wedding pics. This will be of course our wedding gift! I get all nervous of course because we don't do this often and it is a once in a lifetime event so if we don't do it right the first time we won't have a second chance. I admire wedding photographers for having those nerves! Well we already did her "Love Story" pictures, here is a couple of them:

A couple of days ago the bride wanted to see if anyone in the family had pictures of her parent's wedding because she wanted to incorporate a picture of her mom in the celebration (she died of cancer when the bride was a little girl). So when she found the pictures, she realized, for her surprise that they had chosen the same color scheme... wow, what a wonderful coincidence!

She asked me to scan the picture of her mom and enlarge it to 8 X 10 in. This was a 4 X 6 photo taken from a normal camera... it was a very simple wedding. So this are the before and after pics. Mother and daughter look very alike!

Now tell me... what do you think of this color correction, does it need more work? Is it OK like this?

Sweetly Sweet Customers - {Boy Baby Shower}

I am so happy to share the first pics of a customer! Remember that I told you I was going to teach? Well, I was asked to help on doing a flash baby shower for another professor, we only had a couple of days and only 10 minutes to make the whole set up, and it was in a classroom, so that green thing is a chalkboard!!! It is so easy and inexpensive to have an elegant party with printable files... amazing! They used my Baby Shower Collection and here are some pics of the activity... hope you enjoy them!

Alice in Wonderland and Goodbye for Now!

I have two announcements:

First - I am really thinking about doing an Alice in Wonderland Party for Lorelys Maia's 3rd birthday!

Second - Classes are going to start soon, so I will not have a lot of time to update my blog :( I don't know if I told you before, but I am currently writing my thesis and I was recently hired to teach full time at a small college, so between that, my daughter, my husband and house I will have my hands full!

But this is definitely not goodbye! Between printing, cutting and assembling (the easy part), then taking pics, choosing the best pics, editing, coming up with descriptions, pricing, a baby screaming for mommy's milk (yes my daughter still breastfeeds!), etc... it is overwhelming. Optimizing Pictures for Web

This post is not party related... Well, I was wondering why my images didn't look so good on the web as they looked on my camera and why they took so much space if I compressed them a lot! I specially noticed this when I looked at other pics on Etsy that were stunning! Well I was saving them in the wrong format! Maybe all of you already knew and I am the last person on the web to know, but when you save pics for the web, the format will depend on the picture itself.

JPEG - best for pictures!

GIF - best for clipart!

PNG - when you have lots of colors but want transparency!

The picture above was saved in JPEG and only takes 15 seconds to download at 28.8 Kbps, compared to 55 sec in GIF and 48 sec in PNG. Also the JPEG in this case is a lot better quality, stunning in fact! You can click to see a larger version. I am so happy I found this and my pics will be a lot better on the web from now on. No more grainy pics for me!

At last, I got the instructions for the assembly of my Pop-up Cupcake Invitations ready on my Etsy shop! I finally got the pics I wanted, and had some non crafty friends try them to make sure everyone will be able to follow them. These invitations are easy to do, a little bit time consuming, but the results are spectacular!

This invitations got a lot of attention when they got featured at The Tomkat Studio, a great blog about all things party. Thank you all for being patient and waiting for this file, I made it carefully with lots of love. I will keep adding my collections on Etsy this week, God willing!

I want to wish you all a Happy New Year and that the 2010 brings you love, joy, laughter, happiness and everything that you want! I wanted to post my resolutions for the next year and so on, but there is a lot of things going on around my house, so I'm busy! Here are the pics my husband and I took from my little daughter on Christmas... love you all and thanks for reading! I'm sure Boricuas will love the pic of her with the pava (last pic)!

Sneak Peek: Damask and Pink Baby Shower

Here is a sneak peak of a baby shower I am working on. My friend asked me to create an invitation to match the nursery room for her little baby girl. The crib set is stunning, very stylish and girly! I will be working on more cute stuff for this collection.

DIY - Gift Tags to Match Your Gift Wrapping Paper

This is a cool DIY project that you can easily do at home. There are probably a hundred tutorials on how to do this all over the internet, but I wanted to give all of you a Christmas present so here it goes. This is a tutorial on how to make cute little gift tags that perfectly match your wrapping paper. They are little 2.5" square tags. The pics were shot at night so they are not perfect and a little bit off color :), but the tutorial is nice anyway!

Step 1:

Find some gift wrapping paper or use a recyclable option like magazine paper, newspaper, etc. This would look very nice in old magazine paper! And get a piece of cardstock, I used heavy printer paper.

Step 2:

Glue the gift wrap to the cardstock, use a soft cloth to rub the paper as you glue it down so that you don't get any air bubbles.

Step 3:

Cut a 2.5 X 5.0" rectangle using a trimmer.

Step 4:

Score in the exact middle with a folding tool, I used the drop-down arm of the rotary trimmer because it provides a straightedge guide for scoring. This simple step will make your tags look professional.

Step 5:

Pass the folding tool along the fold to flatten. This is another little step that makes your folds look very nice. I am using one hand while holding the camera with the other hand, so that's why the pic looks funny!

Step 6:

Use a corner rounder to round off corners and you are done!

Now you should have something like this:

If you use your punches you can get embellishments or use those as tags by themselves.

Boy Baby Shower - Cupcake Toppers and Word Scramble Game

Here is a simulated preview of the cupcake toppers and the word scramble game to match the Boy's Clothes Line Baby Shower Invitation. The cupcake toppers can be cut by hand or using a 2" circle or 2" scallop punch, the simulated preview is for a scalloped shape. They will also be available to match the girls invitation and they will both be available in Spanish on my Etsy Shop soon! I am also working on the cupcake birthday collection... it is a lot of work and so little time!

Girl's Clothes Line Baby Shower Invitation

I just finished the girl's version of the Clothes Line Baby Shower invitation and I just had to share with all of you! (See the boy's version here.) This invitation has two beautiful shades of pink and chocolate. Here is a preview of the invitation, I love the scalloped socks and the cute dress!

I am working on a new size for the invitations, 6X7.5 in, this is the size of the photo greeting cards that some photo labs offers (Costco has them at $14.50 for 50 cards with envelopes) for reasonable prizes. Photo lab printing is a good alternative for color heavy projects like this one, and the quality is excellent. I am not sure what to include in the collection for this invitations... I am doing Sweet Circles by Sweetly Sweet and a pillow box, what else do you think I should design: mini boxes, signs, thank you notes, games? Any advice from my sweetly sweet loyal readers?

Boy's Clothes Line Baby Shower Invitation

I was contacted by a local mom to work on a baby shower invitation for a baby boy. The mom wanted a simple 5X7 invitation with a clothes line in blue and chocolate. I designed all the elements of the invitation in Adobe Illustrator, it was a lot of hard work, but I love the results! The gift in the invitation may look familiar... I used the same bow design as in my Christmas Collection and DIY Letter to Santa Kit. I also designed the polka dot pattern in the bib, you will see a similar pattern in another custom work I am working on.

I love how this invitation turned out and I am currently working the girl's version, with a cute dress and scalloped socks in pink and brown, and also on Sweet Circles! Both invitations will soon be available at my Etsy Shop!

Lorelys Maia's Cupcake Birthday Party!

Yesterday was Lorelys Maia's birthday and it was a success! It all went so fast, but we had so much fun. I had previously posted the invitations, cupcake toppers and candy boxes. And here are some pictures of the event, I hope you love it!

Gratitude Tree Tags - {I am Thankful For...}

I just stumbled with the Gratitude Tree idea from Show Me Crafts and I just had to share. It consists on doing a tree out of branches and putting it inside your house, then write what you are grateful for on tags and hang them from the tree. The girls from Show Me Crafts show how to do a cute banner to go with your tree. Cute idea that can become a new family tradition!

I loved the idea so much that I am doing a Gratitude Tree as the Thanksgiving dinner table center piece this year in my home. When we sit down to eat, I will ask each guest to write down what they are thankful for and hang the tags from the tree. Well, being the crafty person I am, I designed some {I am Thankful For...} tags for the occasion. They have the perfect colors of Autumn and a cute design. And the best part is they are free! DIY Christmas Pop-up Cards

Christmas is just around the corner, and here are the cards I made for the occasion. I used a pattern similar to that of the Wedding Cake Pop-up Cards for the pop-up, combined to the circles I used for the Cupcake Birthday Invitations, and I went to Shutterstock and Etsy to find a modern color pattern. The design is three gifts stacked on top of the other with a modern bow on top and lots of cirlces, I designed everything myself in Ai. This cute card will most definitely be displayed by the lucky receiver.

This is a little banner-thing I made to practice for when I have my Etsy Shop! What do you think?

This is the card, it measures 8.5 x 5.5 inches.

This is the pop-up part, look very closely and notice that it is lined on the inside with a matching stripes and circles pattern.

I added a paper ribbon to the outside, it closes itself with the included Sweet Circles by Sweetly Sweet, so no need for an envelope.

Sweets Table Candy Boxes

I bought these little take out boxes for the sweets table from a local shop. They have the perfect size for a serving of sweets. Decorated in a very simple way with the Sweet Circles by Sweetly Sweet and a little bow, they look perfect. Sweet Circles by Sweetly Sweet are the trademark words I just came up to describe my circular cutouts. I am looking for a commercial feel... well dreaming a little bit won't hurt anyone!

Cupcake Birthday Banner

I wanted to do a birthday banner to match the cupcake birthday invitations, the treat boxes and cupcake toppers I made before. So I thought that a cupcake cutout was the way to go! I printed the cupcakes on card-stock and hand cut them. Each cupcake is like 7 inches tall. I think the cupcake banner looks inviting and ready to party and celebrate... what do you think?

Designing the Sweetly Sweet Table - Part One

As I mentioned earlier, I want a sweets table for my little sweetheart's birthday. I found this two vases on sale at Marshalls today, they were $7 each! I filled them out with some candy to see how they looked, and I am sharing them with you. I think I will need two more like this and others with different shapes... let's see what I can do before the birthday on November 29. For those of you who have done Candy Buffets before, please give me some advice!

I like how the pink and purple goes togheter here.

I think the candy is too long for this vase, but I wanted to take a picture with some candy on it. I will change the candy for this one. Thanks for the advise!

Wedding Cake Pop Up Card DIY Templates

Treat Box and Cupcake Toppers

I designed a cute treat box going with the cupcake theme, it is small, measuring 3.5 X 3.5 inches, but looks absolutely cute! It is also easy to do, I am still planning what to do with them at the party, maybe you can give me suggestions! I also made some cupcake toppers inspired by The TomKat Studio, Kim is the cupcake topper diva!

And talking about Kim, she just left a sweetly sweet comment and told me that she loved the invitations for the birthday party and she is featuring them in her blog!!! I am so excited about this, can't wait to see the invitations featured, I actually went jumping up and down all over my house when I saw the comment... her work has been a great source of inspiration. Thanks Kim.

Lorelys Maia's Cupcake Birthday Invitation

Hey, I am going full force with the preparations of my daughter's birthday and I wanted to share the final design for the invitations. I wanted something crafty, but easy to do at the same time. I think they came out awesome. I designed the template in AI, then printed it out on white cardstock. After a couple of straight cuts and some folding, the invites are done... well at least the first one! I wanted to incorporate the design of the cupcake I had made earlier with the Martha Stewart punch that was the inspiration for the birthday, so I put the punched cupcake at the top of the birthday cake. The invitation has a flap that closes like an envelope, so I am saving the envelopes. And notice that I lined the inside of the invitation with pink paper, I think it adds a nice touch. NOTE: I am from Puerto Rico, so the invitations are in Spanish. I hope you enjoy the pics... and if you do, please share the love with a comment!

Super cute gift tag with a twist

Amy from Eat Drink Chic came up with this wonderful design of a gift tag with a modern twist. Instead of a normal gift tag, Amy made this super cute envelope that contains a letter to newborn Violet. She even designed the lettering on Violet's name. I also love how she photographs her creations. Absolutely a great keepsake, so I had to share!

Wedding Cake Pop Up Card

I needed a wedding greeting card and I came up with this Pop Up Wedding Cake card. I think it came out wonderful! I also made a little money holder going the theme because the couple requested gifts in cash. Cupcake Design Too

I made another version of the cupcake, with a little more detail. Because the punch is so little I didn't include a lot of detail in the first one, but I think it will be fine, I like them both. Tell me what you think.

The Cupcake Design

I think these little cupcakes are going to be a hit at the party! I used my Martha Stewart Cupcake punch and scanned the design to my computer, then digitalized it... added a few elements here and there and voila the Cupcake for Lorelys Maia's Birthday. I also added the number two and the letter L and M (Lorelys Maia). They perfectly fit the cupcake punch and they punch out very well. They can be placed on invitations, cupcake toppers, tags and other things. I was playing a little bit with them and wondering if I should use them overlapped or apart. What do you think?

A color scheme can be found {anywhere}

I went to the local Walmart and found this gorgeous paper bags in a delicious color scheme, just perfect for Maia's second birthday. So the color scheme is set!

I am working out the design for the cupcakes incorporating the colors above. I hope they turn out sweetly sweet!
